TanguerIN starts ::tangoteca:: - a new tango event concept

As of 1st November 2007 TanguerIN starts a new weekly tango event called ::tangoteca:: combining a traditional milonga and a contemporary tango afterparty. It takes place every Thursday evening in an underground club on 18 Vitosha Blvd. (also known as the "Deep Down Club" or the former 18+ club)

The concept of ::tangoteca:: is to provide a place to dance and communicate to those who love argentine tango in all of its forms and styles. The evening begins with a dance class for all levels and continues with a party, the first part of which is a milonga in the best traditions of Buenos Aires, with music mainly from and in the style of the great orchestras from the Golden Age of tango. In the second part, the party continues with contemporary tango music with emphasis on electronic tango compiled with some tango nuevo and some alternative non-tango music, appreciated by tango dancers. The idea of ::tangoteca:: is to bring together in one evening dancers from different generations, with different music preferences and dance styles to enjoy the magic of argentine tango in all its variations and reincarnations. The official blog of the new event is http://tangoteca.tanguerin.com

Tango Nuevo weekend with argentinean maestros Ismael Ludman and Maria Mondino

TanguerIN Studio organizes a special long weekend dedicated to the tango nuevo style of dancing from 14 till 17th June 2007 in Sofia, featuring one of the main protagonists of today's contemporary tango scene, the argentine dancers Ismael Ludman and Maria Mondino. The event is organized in partnership with the Red House Center For Cultutre and Debate in Sofia which will host a special introduction dance class with Ismael and Maria and a big milonga party with shows by the argentine maestros.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE MAESTROS

Maria Mondino started her career with renowned milonguero Juan Durso in La Plata, Argentina. In 1999 she moved to Buenos Aires where she focused on creative tango and started to work extensively with Gustavo Naveira. She has also worked with Maurico Castro & Carla Marano, "Chicho" Frumboli & Eugenia Parilla, and Pablo Inza. The style she is interested in, and tries to develop and promote, is the result of a search: the idea of generating consciousness of the movement, the systematization of concepts, as well as a clear and defined pedagogy. She stimulates her search to achieve quality and organic movement, as well as warmth, expressiveness and connection in the dance. She also has experience in theatre, flamenco, contemporary dance and release technique, which complement her overall formation as a dancer. Since 1999 Maria has been teaching tango on a regular basis in Argentina and in Europe. In Buenos Aires she has taught at Mora Godoy Studios, Tango Brujo Academy, Centro Cultural La Fragua and she has taken part as teacher and performer in tango festivals, shows and instructional videos. She has taught workshops in many cities around the world including London, Pisa, Rotterdam, Barcelona, Istanbul, Berlin, Basel, Paraguay, TangoCamp in Heinola (Finland) and others.

Ismael Ludman is an artist, part of a generation of young Argentine dancers, whose curiosity led him to penetrate into the great diversity of schools and teachers within the tango of Buenos Aires in the search of a dynamical, improvised and organic tango. He has extensively worked with Gustavo Naveira, and Chicho. He has taught together with Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes, Melina Bruffman and Claduio Gonzales and others. His formation as a dancer includes also such artistic disciplines as Contact Improvisation, Eutonia, Butoh and Dance-Theatre. He is at the cutting edge of tango development promoting a style with a focus on communication, expressiveness and a relaxed way of dancing. Ismael is a confident, eloquent and accomplished teacher. Based in Buenos Aires, his teaching  spots include the well known Centro Cultural Borges. He is known in Buenos Aires by his creative alternatives on tango. He is actively involved in new age tango performances and other artistic projects. Beyond Buenos Aires he has taken part as a dancer, teacher and organizer in Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Scotland, England, Spain and Turkey.

Both together are a fresh, dynamic and energetic couple. Their performance comes from the simplicity to a complex and personal interpretation of the music, both traditional and modern tango. As teachers, they combine the precision of the technical and mechanical perspective of the movements, with the abstract world of sensations and feelings. They build their classes from strong and simple bases, to arrive to the complexity in an organic way. They understand the pedagogic experience as a "body-mind" interchange between students and teachers.

More information about them can be found at www.tangodinamia.com.ar.

Tango Recreo - a tango weekend in the mountains with tango teachers from USA

TANGO RECREO is a three day immersion into the emotions of the argentine tango amidst the nature and the clean air of Rila Mountain. The aim is to relax from the stress and the tension of the big city and to enjoy the tranquility and the energy of the mountain, to indulge in the beauty of the dance and the music. Three days in which the nature will merge with our inner energy, released through tango, helping us to improve our movements and communication during the dance, to be more creative and natural and to sense better the music and our partner. Three days in which we will learn new things, develop what we already know, experiment with the music and the dance and have fun.

THE TEACHERS

All workshops during the event will be led by our special guests - Sharna Fabiano and Isaac Oboka, who live and teach tango in Washington DC.

Isaac and Sharna are a dynamic and thoroughly modern partnership, pursuing the artistry of the tango with subtlety, playfulness, and precision. Among the most versatile of tango couples, they move elegantly between the intimate moments of traditional tango styles and the complex and athletic vocabulary of the emerging generation.

Equally passionate about teaching, their classes strike a balance between clear and insightful explanations of tango mechanics, and the sensual skills of connecting with a partner. Most of all they want students to have fun with the learning process, and to discover the magic of tango improvisation at any level. More information bout the couple can be found on their website: www.isaacsharna.com.

Sharna is among the most accomplished tango performers and teachers in the United States. She is recognized around the world for her mastery of both leading and following roles, and for her elegant and powerful quality of movement. She is also credited with pioneering the use of non-Argentine "neotango" music for social tango dancing. Sharna has a background of classical and contemporary dance, and has been dancing tango since 1997.

Sharna performs with the internationally acclaimed TangoMujer Dance Company, a group of all-women tango dancers based in NYC. Her own choreographic work combines tango movement with modern dance to explore the meaning of partnership: its allure, conflict and, ultimately, its potential for transformation in our lives. In 2006 she established Sharna Fabiano Tango Company and premiered her first evening-length production, "Tangos From Here" to sold-out audiences in Washington, DC. Her written articles on the depth and mystique of the tango have been widely read online and translated into several languages. For more information about Sharna's current projects, visit www.sharnafabiano.com.

Sharna's partner, Isaac Oboka, is an extraordinarily gifted young dancer from Denver, Colorado. With the smooth, effortless quality attributed to the most sophisticated social dancers, his tango is full of surprises, originality, and humor! For the past several years, Isaac's passionate quest for the heart of the tango has taken him to hundreds of dance floors across the US, and to Buenos Aires for an intensive study of three months. Since his return in early 2006, he has taught in over a dozen cities in the US and Canada, and also in Berlin, Germany. Isaac is greatly inspired by the innovative dancing of the famous argentine artists Chicho Frumboli/Eugenia Parrilla and Sebastian Arce/Mariana Montes.

During TANGO RECREO 2007 Sharna and Isaac will teach a total of 10 tango workshops on different topics and for different levels and will make a demonstration during one of the milongas. Sharna will also be DJing at a special NeoTango Milonga (milonga with alternative non-tango music) during the last night of the event.

THE PLACE

All events will take place at Hotel Zodiac (***) in Borovetz. The hotel is part of the oldest and most famous mountain resort in Bulgaria situated some 75 km. away from Sofia.
