TANGO RECREO is a three day immersion into the emotions of the argentine tango amidst the nature and the clean air of Rila Mountain. The aim is to relax from the stress and the tension of the big city and to enjoy the tranquility and the energy of the mountain, to indulge in the beauty of the dance and the music. Three days in which the nature will merge with our inner energy, released through tango, helping us to improve our movements and communication during the dance, to be more creative and natural and to sense better the music and our partner. Three days in which we will learn new things, develop what we already know, experiment with the music and the dance and have fun.
THE TEACHERS
All workshops during the event will be led by our special guests - Sharna Fabiano and Isaac Oboka, who live and teach tango in Washington DC.
Isaac and Sharna are a dynamic and thoroughly modern partnership, pursuing the artistry of the tango with subtlety, playfulness, and precision. Among the most versatile of tango couples, they move elegantly between the intimate moments of traditional tango styles and the complex and athletic vocabulary of the emerging generation.
Equally passionate about teaching, their classes strike a balance between clear and insightful explanations of tango mechanics, and the sensual skills of connecting with a partner. Most of all they want students to have fun with the learning process, and to discover the magic of tango improvisation at any level. More information bout the couple can be found on their website: www.isaacsharna.com.
Sharna is among the most accomplished tango performers and teachers in the United States. She is recognized around the world for her mastery of both leading and following roles, and for her elegant and powerful quality of movement. She is also credited with pioneering the use of non-Argentine "neotango" music for social tango dancing. Sharna has a background of classical and contemporary dance, and has been dancing tango since 1997.
Sharna performs with the internationally acclaimed TangoMujer Dance Company, a group of all-women tango dancers based in NYC. Her own choreographic work combines tango movement with modern dance to explore the meaning of partnership: its allure, conflict and, ultimately, its potential for transformation in our lives. In 2006 she established Sharna Fabiano Tango Company and premiered her first evening-length production, "Tangos From Here" to sold-out audiences in Washington, DC. Her written articles on the depth and mystique of the tango have been widely read online and translated into several languages. For more information about Sharna's current projects, visit www.sharnafabiano.com.
Sharna's partner, Isaac Oboka, is an extraordinarily gifted young dancer from Denver, Colorado. With the smooth, effortless quality attributed to the most sophisticated social dancers, his tango is full of surprises, originality, and humor! For the past several years, Isaac's passionate quest for the heart of the tango has taken him to hundreds of dance floors across the US, and to Buenos Aires for an intensive study of three months. Since his return in early 2006, he has taught in over a dozen cities in the US and Canada, and also in Berlin, Germany. Isaac is greatly inspired by the innovative dancing of the famous argentine artists Chicho Frumboli/Eugenia Parrilla and Sebastian Arce/Mariana Montes.
During TANGO RECREO 2007 Sharna and Isaac will teach a total of 10 tango workshops on different topics and for different levels and will make a demonstration during one of the milongas. Sharna will also be DJing at a special NeoTango Milonga (milonga with alternative non-tango music) during the last night of the event.
